I was intrigued when Dunkin Donuts introduced their salted caramel hot chocolate for the 2013 holiday season. My usual drink at DD has always been coffee with cream and sugar and toasted almond flavor. When I tried the new salted caramel hot chocolate for the first time, it instantly became my favorite.
If you’ve read my other posts whether here or on Craft Box Girls then you know I am a sucker for salted caramel. This drink had everything I love about morning java except it’s not coffee. The warm, rich and smooth chocolate taste was enough to shake me from my morning grogginess. The savory salted caramel made it extra unique like a glimpse of sunshine on an overcast kind of day.
During last year’s frigid winter months, this salted caramel hot cocoa has kept me company on days I can’t make it outside. More importantly, on days I needed a pick-me-up. We all can use a little sunshine on those cold and dark winter days. Make one for yourself or a few extra mugs to share the love.
Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa
Ingredients: Make 2 servings
2 cups milk
4 tablespoons chocolate syrup
2 tablespoons salted caramel ice cream topping
whipped cream topping
In a sauce pan, warm the milk. Add chocolate syrup and stir. When milk comes to a boil, remove it from the stove. Pour the hot cocoa into a mug. Add whipped cream topping. Drizzle salted caramel on top. (I used a pipping bag.) Stir and enjoy the warmth with a friend.
Stay warm my friends.
