August has flown by! Where did the month and days go? I’ve been running around all month (for good reasons) and it looks like I’m not slowing down anytime soon. So many wonderful things happened in August that I have to share with you all. From trying new local restaurants, transitioning to fall goodies and the exciting blogger community news and events, I’ll share it all here on Summer Recap August 2015.
Around Town Restaurants
At last month’s Yelp CM meet-up, I met Eren C. She suggested some of her favorite restaurants around town and Serpas True Food was one of it. Without knowing the background of STF, I came there with two girlfriends, Le and Meiling. We were shocked when we saw smoked salmon chips on the menu. This place must be owned by the same folks who own Two Urban Licks because their famous salmon chips was just as fantastic as STF. The food and atmosphere was awesome. Check out my review on Yelp. Thanks for the recommendation, Eren C.
Shake Shack has been opened all summer I haven’t had the chance to try it out. I got mixed reviews about the place. Some loved and some thought it was so-so. So, I stopped by one evening with my sister, her family and a few of my friends. I was expecting a diner kind of style but it was more like a modern McDonalds. You order at the counter, wait for your number and find a seat – if one is a available. There are additional seating upstairs on the terrace overlooking Peachtree Street. Thank goodness it was an unusually cool night or else I wouldn’t be able to withstand sitting outside in the Atlanta heat. Check out my review of Shake Shack on Yelp.
This place has been buzzing for months. It’s located at the Buckhead Avenue shopping district. The coffee shop is small with limited seating. The coffee choices are good and they even serve quick bites such as sandwiches and salads. The food portions are small but packed with flavor. See what I ate on my Yelp review.
After waiting for over an hour to pick up furniture at Ikea during the busiest back to school shopping weekend ever, I was exhausted and hangry. Luckily Gio’s was right around the corner from Ikea. Parking was a nightmare since Gio’s and sister restaurant, Antico are both Atlanta’s popular Saturday night hangout. After waiting for a short period, the famous lemon chicken came out smelling so good and refreshing. There were other great stuff on the menu besides the lemon chicken like the steak and pastas. I love me some steak. See my full review here.
All summer long I have been meeting up with new blogger friends and supporting one another’s media endeavors. From sponsorship to workshops, this blogger community is beyond supportive and completely full of energy. I’m truly honored to be apart of it all.
With so many blogger societies out there, very few focus primarily on uniting the industry’s best lifestyle bloggers, help each other share social media tips, educate and collaborate to inspire and empower one another. Craft Box Girls created this alliance called the Lifestyle Bloggers Society. If you are a lifestyle blogger (food, DIY, fashion, travel, wedding, etc..) join today. It’s free and you’ll get a chance to be featured on their website as well have access to the wide array of network connections. If you are not a blogger, save the site to your favorites. This is the one-stop-shop to finding cool new bloggers and see who is featured each week. It’s a win-win to me.
Tori Allen PR Mixer
This month’s TAPR Mixer was at Buckhead Tavern. I come to these events to meet new bloggers and to catch up with bloggers from the last event. At the meet up, Buckhead Tavern provided small bites that were super delicious. The staff was so friendly and cool. The cocktails were amazing. One awesome thing about Buckhead Tavern is they cut their own steaks. So if you are in the mood for a good piece of steak in the city or munch on tasty bar food, stop by Buckhead Tavern. They have complimentary valet and the space is huge.
Craft Box Girls
Throughout the month of August, Craft Box Girls promoted Atlanta’s own tequila brand, Goza Tequila. I really love this brand because their tequila is smooth and goes so well with any cocktail. During the campaign, I created 5 cocktail recipes using Goza Tequila and crafted a 3 course tequila-inspired meal. You can read all about it on CBG’s website.
Paint Nite with Peachfully Chic
It’s been years since I’ve gone to those paint classes. My friend Allie from Peachfully Chic invited a couple of us girls to enjoy a night of paint and fun. The event was at Social Vinings and after two quick hours, we all walked out with our own painting of a Parisian skyline with the Eiffel Tower. My Eiffel Tower looks more like a temple. Hey now, I can’t be great at everything! I really enjoyed the company and experience.
I hosted a pop-up workshop for a few bloggers friends this month at Murphey Candler Park in Dunwoody. This was an extension of my posts on Basic Photography 101. The goal was to understand ISO, aperture and white balance and apply it with hands-on practice. But when word got out, I had so many requests for a second workshop that it might flow over into a third workshop. I’m truly amazed that others want to learn from me because I’m still learning myself. Another pop-up workshop is in the works for late September and it’s full. I also guest presented for Lynn Lilly’s Blogging 101 Workshop at General Assembly on August 4th. It was such a success that General Assembly asked her back for another workshop on September 8th at 7 PM. Tickets are on still sale at General Assembly. I’ll be there to talk about 10 photography tips for bloggers.
I had the privilege to swap blogs with Atlanta’s fastest growing blog, Verbal Gold Blog. Ady, founder and editor of VBG shared her inside tips on owning the Hamptons on my site while I shared my addictive Nutella Brownie recipes on VGB. I love the collaboration and the turn out. Visit Verbal Gold Blog and check it out.
Thrift Store Find
I went browsing through a thrift store one day and found a basket and two throw pillows. Immediately, I thought about making a new dog bed for Kennedy. His bed was chewed up by another dog weeks ago. He loves having a bed to sit next to me while I work. After a little painting and a face lift, the pillows and basket converted to a dog bed for Kennedy. You can read about this post on Craft Box Girls.
Can you recall a baby shower I co-hosted in June for my sister, Tram? Well, she had her baby. He is a 7 pounds 6 ounce healthy baby boy named Atticus. He is so adorable and I visit him with every spare minute I have. Now my three sisters all have a family of their own and I’m so proud of them. I can’t wait to have arts and craft time with the kids during my babysitting weekends.
I am over the moon with excitement to announce that I will be working with Craft Box Girls on their first Children’s craft book to be released Spring 2016!
Coming up in September, I’ll be traveling to Montreal, Canada for my solo trip. I’ll be exploring this beautiful Canadian metropolis and discover local eats and shops. Look for selfies, groupies and a ton of amazing food and street photogs!
