It’s been a while since my last getaway. To be exact, it’s been six months since I took a solo trip to Montreal, Canada. I felt it was time to take another relaxing and stress-free mini vacation. A solo trip was just what I needed. I was my own captain. I decided where to go and what to see. I chose The Golden Isles.
My plan was to drive down The Golden Isles along I-95 to gather a photo collection of all the great things the Georgia coast has to offer. To be realistic, there are hundreds of attractions along the Georgia coast but I only had one weekend to do it. So I created an itinerary for my road trip to hit all the neat places I wanted to see and experience.
Atlanta to Savannah
Arrive at St. Marys
Explore St. Marys
Head back to Atlanta
I also had an agenda on this trip. My purpose was to check off The Golden Isles Photography Scavenger Hunt. Think of it like any other scavenger hunt. My goal was to find and capture the essential beauty that makes the Georgia coast so unique. To keep the trip light and fun, I jotted down 10 things to look for on the trip. These are the staples and scenes I know I will see along the Georgia coast. Here is my list.
The Golden Isles Photography Scavenger Hunt:
- Southern meal at a historic restaurant
- Boats at a coastal town
- The marshland
- Spanish Moss
- Wild horses on Cumberland Island
- The Dungeness Ruins
- A historic bed and breakfast
- Sunrise/sunset on the water
Take a look at what I captured. I successfully completed my list and then some.
Looking back, I think the scavenger hunt really made this trip an adventure. Although I’m competing with myself in this hunt, knowing that I got what I came for made me a little giddy and extremely proud of what I can accomplish on my own.
If you were to create your own Golden Isle road trip and scavenger hunt, what will you hope to see and do?
