Here is a common scenario we all face once in a while.  House guests are coming over in a few short hours and you have no idea what to cook for dinner. You need comfort food everyone can enjoy. The ingredients should be recognizable and simple. The meal has to be tasty and satisfying. What on Earth can you cook for dinner and still please the crowd? I recommend garlic chicken with egg noodles.

Here’s the thing about this dish. The garlic chicken with egg noodles in a mushroom white wine sauce is absolutely divine and is a crowd pleaser. The ingredients include pan-seared chicken which every non-vegetarian living under the sun can enjoy. There’s egg noodles that are low in fat as opposed to pasta. Young ones love noodles with sauces. Anyone who enjoys social eating will love the mushroom in white wine sauce.  It’s a win for all!  All you have to worry about is having enough to go around.

Garlic Chicken with Egg Noodles

  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 6-8 smashed garlic cloves
  • 3 pieces of chicken
  • salt and pepper
  • portobello mushrooms, cut in halves
  • 2 whole shallots
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1/3 cup cream
  • 1 cup dry egg noodles


  1. Heat the pan on medium high. Add cooking oil and garlic cloves.
  2. Sear the chicken and sprinkle a dash of salt and pepper on both sides.
  3. Cook the chicken for 8 minutes rotating it regularly for an even sear.
  4. Take the chicken off the pan and set aside for now.
  5. Using the same pan add shallots and portobello mushrooms. Stir to pick up the wonderful flavors from the leftover garlic, salt and pepper in the pan.
  6. Add white wine and let it cook down on medium high heat.
  7. Add chicken stock, cream, egg noodles and pan-seared chicken pieces into the pan. Let it cook for 15 minutes. Stir noodles occasionally.
  8. When the egg noodle is al dente and sauce is reduced, turn off the heat.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy.
